Learn More About Disorders

Swallowing disorders (dysphagia) are feeding and swallowing difficulties, which may follow an illness, surgery, stroke or injury.
Cognitive-communication disorders include problems organizing thoughts, paying attention, remembering, planning and/or problem-solving. These disorders usually happen as a result of a stroke, traumatic brain injury, dementia, or other neurological factors, although some can be congenital.
Speech disorders occur when a person has difficulty producing speech sounds correctly or fluently (e.g. stuttering is a form of disfluency) or has problems with his/her voice or resonance.
Language disorders occur when a person has trouble understanding others (receptive language) or sharing thoughts, ideas, and feelings (expressive language).

LAMC's own speech-language pathologist, Justine Dodge, MS, CCC-SLP, is ready to help you if you are experiencing any problems in these areas. Justine brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her job and has been practicing speech language pathology since 2007. She has an extensive background with patients from a variety of settings, such as long-term care, skilled nursing, acute care, acute/sub-acute rehabilitation and outpatient therapy.
