Pulmonary Function Testing Lab (PFT)

How well do your lungs work? The brand-new Pulmonary Function Testing Lab (PFT) is now open at Los Alamos Medical Center. The lab is operated by a dedicated respiratory therapist and overseen by experienced pulmonologist Michael A. Lucia, MD.

PFT uses include:

• Diagnosing lung disease, COPD, chronic asthma, long COVID
• Monitoring chronic lung conditions and the effects of smoking
• Assessing and measuring environmental exposures
• Tracking treatment progress

Available tests at LAMC:

• Spirometry (measures lung function)
• Diffusion capacity (measures transfer of gases)
• Body plethysmography (measures lung volume and capacity)
• Methacholine challenge test (helps diagnose asthma)
• 6-minute walk test
• Cardiac and cardiopulmonary stress tests
