Employee Spotlight: Crowned Reina and Representing Her Culture and Heritage With Pride

June 09, 2026

After years of preparation, months of fundraising and plenty of hard work, Ericalyn Gallegos-Conklin now proudly wears the crown and represents her community on the biggest stage.

Ericalyn was just crowned La Reina (Queen) de Las Fiestas de Taos for 2026-27. With the marquee weekend set for July 17-19 in Taos Plaza, the event is a centuries old fiesta celebrating the gathering of generations to enjoy delicious cuisine, traditional music, and fellowship, while honoring the cultural uniqueness of Taos. Ericalyn will be center stage for this year’s festivities.

“To me, wearing the crown and getting to represent my culture, heritage, traditions and faith in such a prestigious way is such an honor,” Ericalyn said. “I get to build a sisterhood and a second family with my amazing Princessas and the Fiesta Council. I look forward to such an amazing and busy year with the fiestas. Que Viva!”

Ericalyn vied against four other highly talented young women for the prestigious title this past weekend, coming out on top after competing in five events: a fashion show, bilingual speech portion, talent, overall presentation, and an anonymous question and response.

“I grew up in Ranchos de Taos and I have always tried to be involved in my community and traditions,” said Ericalyn, who served as La Princessa for Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish from 2023-25. “I served my community for many years by volunteering with the elders and also working with elders at Taos Enchanted Village.”

What else comes with the title of Reina? Traveling the beautiful state of New Mexico and supporting other fiestas all while representing the traditions and culture of Taos.

While still relatively new to the Los Alamos Medical Center clinic team after joining in March 2026, Ericalyn is already making big impacts in healthcare and has big future plans with the ultimate goal of becoming a registered nurse. She’s loving her role at Los Alamos Surgical Associates.

“I have completed my Certified Nursing Assistant license, medication tech license, and am working toward my Certified Medical Assistant and phlebotomy license to ensure I am ready for nursing school and making sure this is my passion,” she said.
