Los Alamos Medical Center Announces New Obstetrics Model in Partnership with CHRISTUS Health and Presbyterian Health
April 24, 2026
LOS ALAMOS, New Mexico (April 24, 2026) - Los Alamos Medical Center (LAMC) announced today a regional model for obstetric (OB) services with CHRISTUS St. Vincent in Santa Fe and Presbyterian Española Hospital. This collaboration, aimed at preserving access to safe, high-quality maternity care for patients in Los Alamos, enables the organizations to coordinate resources, strengthen clinical support, and ensure families receive the right level of care in the most appropriate setting.
As part of the new regional approach, LAMC will continue providing prenatal, postpartum, and women’s health services locally at its outpatient clinic Los Alamos Women’s Health, while deliveries and higher‑acuity obstetric care will be supported at Presbyterian Española Hospital or CHRISTUS St. Vincent in Santa Fe.
“These new affiliations with Presbyterian and CHRISTUS allow us to preserve essential women’s health services in our community while ensuring mothers and babies have continued access to the highest levels of obstetric care,” said Bob Singletary, interim CEO of Los Alamos Medical Center. “Our patients will benefit from a more coordinated, sustainable care model that keeps as much care as possible close to home.”
Leaders at the organizations emphasized that the agreement strengthens continuity of care. Patients receiving prenatal care at Los Alamos will experience coordinated transitions should delivery or specialized services be needed at Presbyterian Española Hospital or CHRISTUS St. Vincent, with teams working closely together to manage transfers and share clinical information and resources.
“CHRISTUS St. Vincent is proud to partner with Los Alamos Medical Center to support families throughout their pregnancy and birthing journey,” said Lillian Montoya, President & CEO of CHRISTUS St. Vincent. “Our shared commitment is to ensure every patient receives safe, compassionate, and expert care.”
CHRISTUS St. Vincent offers a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to maternity care, supported by one of its key strengths—a 24/7 laborist model. This model ensures that dedicated, hospital-based obstetric providers are available around the clock, enhancing safety, responsiveness and continuity of care for both mothers and newborns.
“Caring for our northern New Mexico neighbors is what we do here,” said Presbyterian Española Hospital chief executive Brenda Romero. “This regional solution will ensure continued access to quality obstetric care close to home. We’re committed to making this transition as supportive as we can for patients and their families."
As the closest hospital with OB services to LAMC, Presbyterian Española Hospital offers comprehensive prenatal care, labor and delivery, postpartum support and high-risk pregnancy management.
The hospitals will be working to implement the new model over the next couple months with delivery services transitioning from Los Alamos to Presbyterian and CHRISTUS in late June. Patients with questions about their care plan are encouraged to speak with their OB/GYN provider.
“As many community hospitals nationwide are forced to close their obstetrical programs due to declining numbers of deliveries and difficulty with workforce challenges, we are pleased to be able to reimagine and offer a new and more comprehensive model of obstetrical care here in Los Alamos, said Dr. Justin Green, chief of staff at LAMC. “By establishing regional patient care partnerships with other respected, high-quality obstetrics programs, I believe we will be better able to ensure timely access to obstetrical services for our patients, build on a tradition of patient safety and quality outcomes and increase the availability of clinical resources for our friends and families here in northern New Mexico.”
