DEXA Body Composition Scan

A DEXA body composition scan provides a detailed look at how your body is made up of fat, muscle and bone. Unlike BMI, which uses only height and weight, a DEXA scan measures body composition with a high level of accuracy.

A DEXA scan measures:

  • Total body fat percentage
  • Visceral fat (fat stored around organs)
  • Muscle mass
  • Bone density

This information helps your provider better understand how body fat is distributed and identify metabolic health risks.

For some patients, this type of data may help demonstrate medical obesity and related health risks, even when BMI alone does not tell the full story.
