The Hospital Auxiliary of LAMC

The Hospital Auxiliary of LAMC is a 100+ member organization that serves the staff and patients of the hospital on a volunteer basis. Affectionately known through the years as the “pink ladies,” the term is no longer completely applicable, as several men now belong to the group and are seen around the facility sporting red coats! Indeed, the Auxiliary had its first-ever male leader with a past president, Fred Gross. Current acting president is Carole Watanabe.

Donating more than 11,000 hours each year, the Auxiliary owns and operates The Lobby Shop and serves at many other stations throughout the facility. Among those duties are the information desk, surgical hosting and pre-op assessment, hospitality, and hats, and patient assistance for patients in the Ambulatory Treatment Unit (ATU).

They also provide extensive community service at such functions as the annual Health Fair and the Cancer Symposium. In addition, a very active Junior Volunteer program assists with community service events and at some Auxiliary stations. The Auxiliary channels profits from The Lobby Shop into many in-house scholarships for LAMC staff and to its high-school scholarship program which helps to educate high school graduates considering a healthcare career. Additionally, the Auxiliary helps the less fortunate of our community with medical aid grants when appropriate.
